NON DESTRUCTIVE TESTING

Dye Penetrant Testing

Dye Penetrant crack detection equipment is designed to detect surface surface cracks or flaws in metallic materials caused by welding, fatigue, wear and stress. It can be carried out using portable instruments utilizing fluorescent and non-fluorescent methods.

Magnetic Particle Testing.

Magnetic particle crack detection equipment is designed to detect surface or near surface cracks or flaws in ferrous materials caused by welding, fatigue, wear and stress. It can be carried out using either portable or laboratory instruments utilizing fluorescent and non-fluorescent methods.

Lectroflux bench unit is a state of the art magnetic particle test system for the testing of aircraft components in accordance with military specifications. The unit features a maximum magnetising current of 6000 amperes, AC/DC operation and automatic de-magnetisation.

Applications include the testing of crankshafts, axles and shafting, connecting rods, mining equipment such as drill rods / collars and winder components.

Ultrasonic Inspection

Ultrasonic examination of structural welds.

Ultrasonic techniques are particularly adaptable for determining the structural integrity of engineering materials.

Their principal applications consist of :

1. Discontinuity detection and sizing.
2. Thickness measurement.

The desirable features of UT include:

1. High sensitivity permitting detection of minute discontinuities.
2. Good penetrating power, allowing examination of extremely thick sections.
3. Accuracy in the measurement of discontinuity position and estimation of discontinuity size.
4. Need for access to only one surface of test object.

Test conditions that may limit the application of UT typically relate to one of the following factors:

1. Unfavourable test object geometry (size, contour, surface roughness, complexity and defect orientation.
2. Undesirable internal structure (grain size, structure porosity, inclusion content or fine dispersed precipitates.

Our ultrasonic inspection service includes the inspection of:

* Weldments
* Castings
* Forgings and rolled produces
* Thickness surveys (up to 600°C)

An extensive range of ultrasonic transducers, flaw detection units enable our experienced operators to provide accurate inspection of your components.

Corrosion and erosion of various equipment Including ships hulls, storage tanks and pipe lines can be detected via ultrasonic thickness surveys.

Thickness surveys can be carried out on components operating at temperatures of -10°C to 600°C.

Industrial Radiography

Provides a permanent record of a products compliance to a relevant a standard.

Radiography detects defects in ferrous & non-ferrous items i.e.: aircraft structures castings, butt welding in pressure vessels pipelines and structural fabrications. Our laboratory can provide radiographs from multiple source types.These include:
* Iridium 192
* 200kV directional X-ray units
* 300kV panoramic / directional units
* 150 & 300 kV constant potential units

On site processing provide immediate quality assessments of components and welded joints. This service is provided by two types of mobile darkrooms. A smaller unit for general jobbing work and a larger unit for contract work where office facilities are required.

Eddy Current Testing
Locates and measures the severity of surface and near surface discontinuities in both magnetic and non-magnetic conductive materials. In addition it can sort both classes of metallic materials according to such properties as conductivity , chemical composition and heat treatment.

Ultrasonic Thickness Measurement
The DMS 2 is a revolutionary A-Scan Digital Thickness Gauge. All pertinent inspection data is displayed to the user on a large high resolution 1/4 VGA display designed to use direct sunlight to enhance the contrast.
As well as having all the standard features of digital thickness meter the DMS 2 extends the test possibilities with the following.

692.jpg
Display of DMS 2: with the actual thickness at the top and the A-Scan display of the signal below.

A-Scan: Included with the digital readout of the thickness is the A-Scan representation of the signal in the material, as pictured to the right. This is beneficial as the operator can distinguish between paint thickness, the actual thickness of the part and that of incorrect readings being returned by defects or reflected sound.

Features using the A-Scan display:

MINIMUM CAPTURE:
Measuring at 32 reading per second, it allows for fast continuos scanning by recording the minimum thickness automatically. Which allows the operator to concentrate on the area to be scanned. Thus making minimum capture ideal for the interpretation of the areas discovered by Magnetic Flux Leakage Tests. By scanning 100% of the area marked by MFL the DMS 2 finds the lowest point and records the result for the operator. When used in conduction with the alarm (set to the min. thickness allowed) the actual spot or area is readily marked even with out looking at the DMS 2

FREEZE locks the A-Scan display for evaluation and verification of the echoes at any time during testing even while performing MIN CAP. This helps the operator understand the results obtained with out the probe in contact with the job, ideal for high temperature work.

GAIN (The intensity of the signal) is readily adjustable in 1 dB steps via a direct access key. Where normal thickness meters have only one setting. The DMS 2 can vary the gain so that results can be achieved where normal thickness meters fail. I.e. on unparallel sections & uneven surfaces (pits)

Store/Recall: Up to 20 parameter sets are recordable so that for repeat jobs the DMS 2 set-up and parameters are recorded for easy reloading to save time.

B-Scan (Sample shown): To quickly identify and picture, a reas of extensive corrosion or delamination. The DMS 2, B-Scan provides a graphical thickness cross-sectional view of the equipment being tested. B-Scans are very helpful in quickly identifying laminated or heavily thinned areas. Pit size and contour can be easily mapped giving a representative view of the extent of corrosion pit damage.

Data Recorder
Saving Readings = Saving Time
The DMS 2 Data Recorder is designed to be the most comprehensive data recording tool available. Storing 150,000 readings with A-Scan or B-Scan graph for easy download and report generation.
